Golden Retrievers are known for their loving and friendly personalities, but when it comes to newborn puppies, even the sweetest dog mom can become fiercely protective. It’s a natural instinct for a Golden Retriever mother to guard her tiny pups, especially during the first few weeks of life when they are most vulnerable. Sometimes, this means keeping the curious dad at a distance — even if his intentions are purely affectionate.
In many cases, the Golden Retriever dad is excited and eager to meet his puppies. His tail wags, his eyes light up, and he may whine softly, wanting to sniff, lick, or simply lie near his new family.
